At this phase, most will either make it, or break it. This is the most challenging academic evaluation phase in the program, and usually tests the candidates ability to critically think in situations where knowledge of warfighting comes into critical play.
PHASE III
Phase three is the final phase of evaluation. At this time, candidates must select their preference field of assignment. Available to choosing, are Naval Officer, and Ground Officer. Either choice must be made on the immediate completion of Phase II, and if the officer does not select either preference, they will be slotted into the needs of the Fleet. At this time they will engage a series of practical exercises in order to properly evaluate their leadership and competency in their actual role. Naval and Ground Candidates alike will experience a multitude of field exercise before graduating as Second Lieutenants of the Fleet.
COMMISSIONING PATHS
NAVAL AVIATOR
Naval Aviators are the pilots of the Combined Expeditionary Fleet. Whether it be strike pilots or cargo aviators hauling in order to properly and effectively maneuver goods and cargo, the Aviators of the CEF are tasked with the piloting of vessels in the composition of Naval Squadrons. Those candidates who select Naval Aviator will be expected to pass a final culmination exam, and are then graduated from OCS to immediately move into flight school. If a prospective aviator fails flight school they will be immediately re-classed to the needs of the Fleet.
GROUND OFFICER
Ground Officers are the largest composition of active Officers in the Combined Expeditionary Fleet. These officers are subsequently those who become Infantry Officers, as Platoon Commanders, or as Vehicle Officers leading mechanized infantry or tank sections. The majority of Special Warfare Officers, and Special Reconnaissance Officers who are selected are also traditionally Ground Officers. Upon a Candidate's selection of the Ground Officer route, they are immediately classed into the Phase III (G) portion of OCS, and are required to pass a rigorous series of examinations, all conducted in the field. Upon successful graduation of OCS, they are immediately sent to either Infantry Officers Course, or Mechanized Officer Course. Select spots are available to become a Medical Officer.
NAVAL OFFICER
Naval Officers are those who man, lead, and control the largest vessels that the Combined Expeditionary Fleet has. While some may move on to become Flight Officers, or command patrol boats, and even potentially command Fleets at the head of a Bengal, the Naval Officer Career field offers the broadest opportunities for advancement on large multi-personnel ships. These officers are also eligible to attend selection for Special Warfare and Special Reconnaissance. Upon selection of this track, they are tasked to field examinations at the helm of a patrol boat. Upon graduation, they are sent to their respective school to train for their position.
